At the request of certain of its core clients, Newlyn is channelling its warehousing and storage development expertise into the bulk product storage sector. Policy reform in the freight logistics sector guided by the National Freight Logistics Roadmap which has accelerated private sector participation in the port and rail sectors presents new opportunities for the Newlyn Group. We welcome these structural changes in the sector and as a proudly South African company, we reaffirm our desire to collaborate with Transnet, the public sector and other private sector participants to deliver world-class bulk material and container logistics storage and handling infrastructure to ensure South Africa’s mining and other exporters are globally competitive through the commodity cycles. 

To this end Newlyn has established innovative and sustainable bulk material storage and handling partnerships with leading global OEMs to provide scalable, innovative developments in South Africa. Alongside its OEM partnerships, Newlyn has invested in an in-house bulk materials facility infrastructure expertise and management team and is leveraging its strategic land positions in Coega, Richards Bay and Saldanha to develop state-of-the-art, operationally efficient and environmentally leading back of port developments to serve the manganese, chrome, magnetite and coal industry. Initial simulation of our projects indicate that they will deliver substantial improvements to train and ship turnaround at our major bulk minerals ports, thereby making our miners more competitive in a global context and enhancing South Africa’s standing as a global exporter for minerals. Our planned facilities will also be a catalyst for the increasing migration of freight from road to rail.
